Prayer is communion with God. Prayer is the acknowledgement that God is present. We do not pray to change God, or to change our outer conditions; we pray to change us. We pray so our conscious awareness is not praying to God, but praying from a consciousness OF God. A God that is always present…RIGHT NOW!
God’s will for us is good…all the time. So, even when our world may look the darkest, may seem the hardest, may feel the worse, we may rest assured that God is available, willing, and present, to love, support, and comfort us.
When we pray, we immediately acknowledge the presence and activity of God as part of our life experience. Jesus taught to “Seek ye first the kingdom of God (being consciously aware of God’s presence) and all things will be yours.” What we want to be ours, is the awareness and acknowledgement of God’s enfolding love and guidance. This helps us to become willing to surrender control, and attachments to outcomes that we can not effect anyway. When we pray, with feeling and conviction, we change ourselves, and bond ourselves to a Higher Power that has only our good in mind.
In summation, prayer is not seen as a technique for changing God, or for changing events, but for expanding and transforming our mind and heart, and thus changing us. Daily prayer and meditation are the vital links that increase our conscious contact of the Spirit of God that lives within us.
